Activated carbon environmental protection box

Activated carbon adsorption boxes are generally made of stainless steel, carbon steel, PP material, etc. Typically, manufacturers can choose suitable materials based on the nature of the customer's exhaust gas. The thickness of the main structure must be determined according to various models and processing capacities, and it must have sufficient reinforcement to bear the loads required by the structure and during operation. Additionally, necessary operating platforms should be provided.

Working principle of activated carbon adsorption box:

(1) Adsorption process: Due to the presence of unbalanced and unsaturated molecular attraction or chemical bond forces on the surface of a solid, when this solid surface comes into contact with a gas, it can attract gas molecules, causing them to concentrate and remain on the solid surface. This phenomenon is called adsorption. By utilizing the adsorption capacity of the solid surface, the exhaust gas is brought into contact with a porous solid material with a large surface area. The pollutants in the exhaust gas are adsorbed onto the solid surface, separating them from the gas mixture and achieving purification. Its essence is a process of adsorption concentration. 

(2) Desorption + Catalytic Combustion: When activated carbon approaches saturation, it undergoes desorption regeneration (hot air desorption). The high-concentration organic waste gas generated by desorption is then catalytically combusted to purify the gas. Depending on the nature and reuse value of the waste gas, steam desorption can also be employed. Afterwards, the gas is condensed into a liquid through a condenser and then separated to recover organic solvents.

Design essentials of activated carbon adsorption device:

1. Physical characteristics of organic gases: The temperature, humidity, and concentration of organic gases are essential to understand when we design. In particular, the concentration of organic gases is one of the important bases for designing activated carbon towers. Because after the exhaust gas passes through the primary filter in the adsorption tower to remove solid particles, it enters the tower body and is adsorbed by the activated carbon layer, removing organic exhaust gas molecules from the gas. The purified gas that meets emission standards is then discharged outdoors through a fan.

2. Chemical characteristics of organic gases: The molecular weight of organic gases is another important basis for our design. In addition, whether the gas contains acidic or alkaline gases, which can corrode the main material, should also be considered during design. These two gases should be treated before entering the activated carbon tower.

3. Other factors: designed air handling capacity, daily operating hours of equipment, and replacement frequency of activated carbon.
